“As Belcore, baritone Simon Keenlyside (company debut) was right behind her. Though he failed to make a memorable vocal impression (partly Donizetti's fault -- the tessitura is awkward), this Schubert specialist turned out to be a highly accomplished slapstick comedian, and he and Alagna seemed to be having the time of their lives.”
