…Nagano conducted the version for two male voices with the tenor Michael Schade and the young baritone Simon Keenlyside, two soloists who perform Bethge’s texts with accuracy, clearly pronounced words and subtle empathy. Michael Schade in the drinking songs with a little forced briskness and vehemence; Keenlyside giving impressive coherence to the pictures of farewell with dark, gentle timbre.
