What Simon said in the programme

“What a happy debt it is to repay those whose patronage shores-up our opera and ballet world with their hard-earned wages… by singing and dancing! The very least we can do to keep that shiny penny spinning is regularly to target causes and people that need help, whether that be in the arts or in more basic humanitarian aid. Even small gestures of compassion will cure more than philosophy. If a hop, skip and a jump for us on stage equates to a sack of goodies for Save the Children fund, then how small and happy a step it takes to change, even by one degree, a human life. Every grain of your compassion will make a difference!”
