Simon has sent us a message to explain why he has had to cancel some of his performances recently…
Dear all
I’m so sorry to do this again. A bit of a habit recently, this cancelling lark.
It gives me no pleasure to do so. Nozze di Figaro is an absolute joy for me. I will never tire of the opera and will miss this run very much.
And I’m sorry too, if any of you have spent your hard-earned wages on my account, and are now irritated with my cancellation. I’m afraid that this time… it is only Life that surprised me; both here in London and in Vienna. The two cancellations are linked… [to read the full message click here]

So sorry you had to cancel and I fully understand. Your family and health are, and always will be, more important. We fans have your recordings to get us through, and (hopefully) many more performances to look forward to enjoying in the future.
All best wishes to you, Zenaida, and the children.
Julie
So sorry to hear of Zenaida’s illness. We have had a few of those in our time and supportive grandparents were a godsend. Spouse and family must come first. So it is sad and we’ll miss you and the pension will take a bit of a hit as train and hotel can’t be cancelled but so long as your wife is recovering and you recover. too it doesn’t matter. And anyway, it is a lovely production and I adore Figaro. Kids are such a blessing (aren’t they?)Take good care of yourself and Zenaida. God bless, Diana (and Phil, a huge Zenaida fan). Talk about keeping it in the family.
Simon:
Thank you for taking the trouble to explain your recent absence from the stage. I hope in some sense you are profiting from the rest, even if (ironically) your voice, which naturally is the main focus for your listeners, has taken a hit from overuse in the domestic scene. Knowing how you persevered last year through virus, lung infection, and left arm injury, I was terribly worried that something more serious might be wrong. I do hope the Mrs is well on the way to full recovery, and I don’t think anybody could begrudge your putting her and your family ahead of even the most eagerly anticipated (by you and all) musical events. I have had the pleasure of traveling from the American Midwest to four of your recitals within the past two years – and the fact that personal loss meant you only showed up to three of these (which somewhat dampened the fun of my trip to London last June) did not dissuade me in the least from traveling to hear you last October in Santa Monica. I am sure most of your sincerest admirers will also continue striving to attend all reasonably located recitals and opera performances after your complete recovery. Be well soon, and all best wishes.

Simon
I’m very grateful to you for taking the time to send a message & an explanation. Your health & that of your family are of course more important than anything else & hope you & your wife feel better soon.
I’ve got tickets for Le nozze on both 11th & 14th February so sadly that’s twice I’m not seeing you! No matter, I’m sure Lucas Meachem will do a great job & I’ve got the Macbeth DVD to look forward to.
Best wishes from
Ann
Thank you very much for this message, Simon!!! Taking the trouble to let us know what happened was extremely kind of you.
I wish all the best to you and your wife.
A presto,
Antonio.
Greetings!
Of course NO one can really take your place, but I thought Lucas Meachem did a fine job when you had to pull out of Iphigénie en Tauride at Lyric Opera Chicago in 2006. We can be happy you are home resting your throat, rather than nursing a bad back, broken arm, or suchlike!
Many ++++++++++++++++++++vibes to you and your family!
Happy Trails in 2012!
