More photos, Tweets and curtain call photos of yesterday’s matinee performance

  • “Was really glad to hear Keenlyside in the title role though, specially in this awesome act 2. #ROHRigoletto”
  • “Keenlyside’s #Rigoletto is dark and fascinating as a malevolent spider, yet your heart breaks for the doting, devastated father.”
  • “thoroughly enjoyed Rigoletto. Simon Keenlyside was outstanding as was Aleksandra Kurzak. Great start for my season”
  • “Simon Keenlyside is an extraordinary Rigoletto who expresses his life’s ironies with sublety and grace. Still on a high “
  • “Curtain call pic #ROHrigoletto Thrilling start to the new ROH season for me

Some Tweets about yesterday’s second Rigoletto at ROH:

  • “Just saw Simon Keenlyside sing Rigoletto at the Royal Opera House! He was AMAZING!!”
  • “Behind the bravado of Rigoletto, Simon Keenlyside showed him to be heartbreakingly vulnerable at ROH tonight.
  • “Lukewarm about #ROHrigoletto this eve. Some soggy entries and unstructured stand-and-deliver singing. Keenlyside, however, is divine.”
  • “Well, Keenlyside is a genius, as usual. Not really the ‘right’ voice, but the intensity and attention to detail make up for it”
  • “”Sometimes one just needs A Night at the Opera, and of course Mr Keenlyside in Rigoletto”
  • “Old-fashioned Verdi baritone” be damned, Keenlyside’s Cortigiani was one of the most thrilling things I’ve seen.”
  • “SK clever and elegant singer well paced & v well negotiated lovely soft lyrical line”

First details of Simon’s new CD published by Presto Classical yesterday:

“Though he’s been very busy in terms of complete opera and oratorio recordings over the past few years, it’s been a while since we had the pleasure of a solo disc from the charismatic British baritone Simon Keenlyside, and his next project takes him in an slightly unexpected direction: songs from the shows! Due out on Chandos Records in November, Something’s Gotta Give will include numbers from Carousel, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver!, and songs by Cole Porter and Jerome Kern.

Keenlyside will be accompanied by David Charles Abell and the BBC Concert Orchestra; his natural communicative style, gift for characterisation and ability to do humour as well as pathos are sure to pay dividends in this repertoire and we can’t wait to hear the finished article!”

nor can we!!!
