Sir Ian McKellen welcomed the audience, which included His Majesty King Charles III.
Excerpts from several ballets were performed by the dancers of the Royal Ballet and opera excerpts were performed by several well known singers.
Simon performed in the second half of the concert. His solo contribution was the Prologue from Pagliacci, 'Si puo? Si puo?'.
He also joined in the Act III Finale of Verdi's 'Falstaff', singing Ford, with Bryn Terfel as Falstaff. This scene closed the concert.
