Sie sirrt und summt die Chorlinien mit, während des Festes im zweiten Akt, und ist da psychisch eigentlich schon am Ende. Simon Keenlyside als Macbeth geht dazu den umgekehrten Weg. Die ersten beiden Akte ist er fahl - stimmlich und im Gesicht. Lässt der Kraft der Frau allen Raum, den sie braucht, um derart zu beeindrucken. Später dann, im Duett mit einem derzeit in Höchstform agierenden Pavol Breslik als Macduff, gibt er dem Macbeth mehr Profil. Aber so lange die Frau an seiner Seite ist, ist sie das Zentrum, politisch und strategisch......"

"...She (Liudmyla Monastyrska as Lady Macbeth) lets the coloratura run wild, as if heralding madness. She buzzes and hums the choral lines during the celebration in the second act and by then is already psychologically finished.

Simon Keenlyside as Macbeth follows the reverse path. In the first and second acts he is wan – both in voice and in his appearance. He allows the powerful woman all the space she needs in which to impress. Later, in the duet with Pavol Breslik (who at the moment is acting on top form), he gives Macbeth more character. But as long as his wife is at his side, she is the centre, politically and strategically...."
